Tasks, milestones, summaries, and assignments are collectively referred to as "planning objects"—items in the schedule that help you track the work, cost, and dates for your workspace. A task is one part of all the work that must occur to finish work on the schedule. This task can be assigned to a resource. To provide organization to your tasks and to show an overall deadline for tasks, related tasks can be gathered into summaries. To indicate that significant work has been accomplished in the schedule, you can create a milestone in each summary or for the schedule as a whole. A milestone can be created in a summary and linked to one or more tasks. Once the tasks linked to the milestone are finished, the milestone is reached.
Each planning object has three stages: current, which reflects work that is already done, baseline and approved. For more information, see "About Baselined Schedules" and "About Approved Schedules".
In the Gantt, you can work with all the planning objects in a similar manner.
Planning Objects and Projects
When projects are enabled in Proliance, schedules can be linked to one or more projects. These projects appear on the Schedule's Project tab.
Planning objects can also be associated with a project, selected in the Properties of the planning object. If the parent schedule allows children to have their own project link outside the set associated to the parent schedule, then the planning object can be associated with any project that is available within the workspace. The project is automatically added to the set of projects linked to the parent schedule. If not, only a project that is a listed on the schedule's Project tab is available to be linked to the planning object. For more information about schedule configuration for projects, see "About Projects and Schedules".
