About Baselined Schedules

A baseline schedule is the original estimates for that schedule. It provides the reference points against which you compare actual schedule progress. It should include your best estimates for the tasks you want to track. For more information on how to set a baseline, see "Setting and Removing the Baseline".

The baseline is calculated by merging the baselines of all tasks in this schedule or summary. Storing this original baseline information is useful for tracking estimates and actual work on your schedule. As work on the schedule progresses, you can compare the difference between estimated and actual hours and the planned and actual dates and costs.

You can set a baseline for your schedule either before work starts or after work has started. A baseline can be set for:

When you set the baseline, the following information is saved:

Once the baseline is set, you can reset it, set it for any additional planning objects, or set it for any planning objects that have not yet been completed.

Note: If you set a new baseline for a task, the baseline of the summary or schedule that this task belongs to is also reset.
