The security permissions for the Scheduling module works slightly different from the other permissions in Proliance. When assigning security permissions for the Scheduling module, you are assigning permissions for:
The resource and schedule documents use the standard permissions described in "Assigning Permissions to a Role".
The schedule document contains this additional permission:
For more information on the standard permissions, see "Assigning Permissions to a Role".
Setting Permissions for Tasks
Once you have set the permissions to the schedule document itself, you can further control access by specifying which tasks a user is allowed to do within a schedule document. You can:
Note that tasks that the user does not have permission to view are hidden in the Gantt. This user may think that items in the Gantt, such as dates, are appearing inaccurately.
To control the user's access to all tasks
Select the appropriate permissions for Schedule - All Tasks:
Note: The permissions for All Tasks automatically includes the equivalent permissions for My Tasks. For example, granting Create permission for All Tasks will allow users to create tasks for themselves or for anyone else, regardless of the Create setting for My Tasks.
To control the user's access to his/her own tasks
Select the appropriate permissions for Schedule - My Tasks:
Note: If permissions for All Tasks have been set, permission settings for My Tasks have no effect. For example, granting Update permission for All Tasks will allow users to update their own tasks, regardless of the Update setting for My Tasks.
To control the types of tasks for a user
Select the appropriate permissions for Schedule - Task Type:
These permissions behave as additional filters for the All Tasks and My Tasks permissions. For example, once it has been decided that Mary can only access her own tasks, should she be further restricted to only her own current tasks?
To control the user's access to the Gantt
Select the Gantt options users are allowed to see:
For more information about these Gantt options, see "About the Gantt Toolbar".
Understanding "All Tasks" vs. "My Tasks" Permissions
The important thing to understand is that permissions for Schedule - All Tasks override permissions for Schedule - My Tasks, but only when permission has been granted. Where permission has not been granted, the settings for My Tasks take effect. To help you understand this, refer to the following chart.
Note: In the chart below, "task" means creating, reading, updating, or deleting.
Schedule - My Tasks | Schedule - All Tasks | |
---|---|---|
Permission 'On' |
Can perform the task for own self or for anyone else. |
Can perform the task for own self only. |
Permission 'Off' |
Can perform the task for own self or for anyone else. |
Cannot perform the task at all. |
