Proliance provides two types of Gantt charts: the Collaborative Gantt and the Critical Path Management (CPM) Gantt. Each enables you to work with items such as tasks, milestones, assignments and WBS Codes. However, even though these two Gantts are very similar, they are designed to accommodate two types of users.
Note: In this help system, any reference to the "Gantt" means the feature is available in both the Collaborative and CPM Gantts.
There are different security settings that let you specify which roles have access to which Gantt. In the Workspaces work area, you can open multiple schedules in the Gantt.
Read the following explanations to better understand the differences between the two types of Gantts.
CPM Gantt
The CPM Gantt is intended to be used to create and update schedules. The built-in calculation functionality lets you modify scheduling while maintaining task dependencies. For example, if you were to push out a task using the CPM Gantt, all dependent tasks would be moved out accordingly with the revised scheduling dates being automatically calculated.
In the CPM Gantt, you must click the Save button to save your changes. This enables you to play with the schedule without updating the database. This can be useful for users (like Workspace Managers) who often need to perform what-if-type analysis and don't want to commit their changes right away.
Collaborative Gantt
The Collaborative Gantt is intended to be used for setting baselines, approving schedules, and updating tasks. With the Collaborative Gantt, all of your changes are saved immediately.
