A drawing or submittal can contain any number of revisions. Each revision can record information different from the other revisions.
The Main page always displays the latest revision, but you can access any revision using the Revisions tab.
When you edit a drawing or submittal, you can either choose to edit the current revision, or you can create a new revision. There is no fixed rule as to when you should use each method—it all depends on whether you need to preserve existing information.
To create a revision, your security role must have permission to create the appropriate document type. For more information, see "About Security Permissions".
When enabled, project security permissions have no effect on the creation of document revisions. For example, a user can revise a document that may be linked to projects they don't have permission to access. However, when working with revised documents, project security restrictions continue to apply as before the revision.
