Single Versus Multiple Style Layouts in Word

Proliance enables you to create single style and multiple style layouts. The differences are explained below.

Single Style Layouts

If you attached an XML Schema from the Single Style Layouts folder to your document, Proliance considers your layout file to be a single style layout. When a single style layout is used to print a single document, Proliance replaces the XML elements with their corresponding field values. When a single style layout is used to print multiple documents from a register, Proliance replicates the contents of the DocumentData element, with one copy per Proliance document being printed.

With single style layouts, you can also create cross document links. For example, if you have a Workspace document and want to include the location of the company that is linked to the Workspace document, you can link from the Workspace schema, to the company schema, and then to the company location schema. All of these schemas must be attached to your Word document before these links can be created. These links can only be created in a forward direction, for example, you can create a link from a Workspace document that references a company, but you cannot create a link from a company to a workspace since the company document does not reference the workspace.

If you want to know how Trimble Buildings has set up links between documents, you can first look at the Document Model documentation to see how the documents are linked. You can also review the .XSD files for any open namespaces or references to one or more specific namespaces.

Multiple Style Layouts

If you have attached an XML Schema from the Multiple Style Layouts folder to your document, Proliance considers your layout file to be a multiple style layout.  When a multiple style layout is used to print a single document, Proliance replaces the XML Elements with their corresponding field values. When a multiple style layout is used to print multiple Proliance documents from a register, Proliance replicates the contents of the DocumentData element, with one copy per Proliance document being printed.

Note that multiple style layouts cannot include any calculated field values, as these fields are not included in the schema. If you need to include calculated fields in your layout, use the single style layout instead.
